THE potential UEFA Champions League winners are helping to boost the fundraising efforts at a Vale of Clwyd church.

Liverpool take on Real Madrid this Saturday evening in the Champions League final - and the Reds have been indirectly helping out with the fundraising efforts at St Peter's Church, in Llanbedr DC.

The church is auctioning a Liverpool FC shirt signed by all of the current team and the auction is open until June 1.

The Rev Huw Bryant, Mission Area Leader of Dyffryn Clwyd, said permission for work to revamp the church has now been given.

This includes introducing wheelchair access, toilets and an open space for community use.

Rev Bryant said: "This is to aid the work we do in the church offering free music education for young people in the area, a community choir and running youth groups as well as providing a space for outside community groups to use.

"The only thing holding us back, (is) the fundraising, and I’ve been praying for ways to raise the necessary funds.

"Well, last Sunday in Llanbedr we celebrated a baptism. I mentioned in the service how I always use water from Holy Wells, this time I had a mix from Llangynhafal and Llanrheadr Holy Wells.

"After we’d finished I was chatting with one of the Godparents and he asked if I had any water left over so I poured some in a bottle for him and asked him what he wanted it for. Turns out on the 28th he’ll be in Paris for Liverpool’s match in the final of the Champions League and thought the Holy Water might help them, and why not, it might help with the prayers of St Cynhafal and the Blessed Virgin Mary behind the team!"

Rev Bryant added: "But then as he was leaving, he said that he knew we were fundraising for the re-ordering of the church and all the stuff we were doing and wanted to help so he went to his car and came back with a Liverpool shirt signed by all the current team and gave it to me auction off!

"A fabulous gift.

"We’re currently running it as an auction on eBay and we’re trying to get word out to any local Liverpool fans who might like a chance to own this fabulous signed shirt and help in the process help fund our community building project."
