VALE of Clwyd councillors have been hailing the success of last week's Urdd Eisteddfod.

Well over 100,000 people attended the hugely successful Urdd Eisteddfod in Denbigh.

The long-awaited 2022 Urdd Eisteddfod was the first and largest national cultural event held for the young people of Wales since the beginning of the Covid pandemic.

Access to the festival at Kilford Farm, Denbigh was free this year, which resulted in 118,000 people visiting the site.

Thousands of competitors from across Wales had the opportunity to perform on stage in one of the three pavilions as the Urdd offered ‘a stage for everyone’ for the very first time, an experiment which was a “major success” according to event organisers.

Denbighshire Free Press:

Denbigh Lower county councillor Mark Young said: "What a huge success from the great council teams who got the town looking absolutely spotless to everyone with their red white and green bunting, including Mr Urdd's.

"I visited several times and from the moment you entered the field to the smiling amazingly professional carpark volunteers to the whole Welsh warm welcome you received, going around was truly a credit to the organisers / volunteers.

"Seeing all the youths mixing, performing and enjoying their cultural experiences.

"This shows us Wales and its culture are in safe hands and we also should congratulate them on all their performances as they were an inspiration!"

Cllr Rhys Thomas said: "On the whole having rain at night and clearing by mid morning worked well and it didn't dampen the spirits of the huge crowds.

"My Wellingtons stayed in the car!

"Very successful and great to see so many local people there who had never been to an Eisteddfod.

"Having a free bus service to get there and free entry gave them a taste of what an Eisteddfod field has to offer."
