A COUPLE who started a bakery business during lockdown are set to open their first high street shop.

Daniel Horton, and wife Danni, launched their own business from home during the first lockdown.

They started by making delicious brownies, which were delivered by post - before they started to hand deliver when restrictions eased.

Daniel, whose background is in marketing, sales and customer service, said: "It was such an awful time during the lockdown, and the reason we wanted to start our business was to spread some happiness during those dark times - to bring family’s together over some delicious treats.

"The business was born out of the darkness and unhappiness that the first lockdown and coronavirus brought to us all."

The Leader:

Since then, the business has rapdily grown - and they have now outgrown their base at their Connah's Quay home.

Daniel explained: "From the start we felt it was very important to be perceived as a very professional business, especially due to the fact we were running it from home.

"From this we created a professional looking Facebook business page, we designed a professional logo, bespoke uniform, which we always wear on the days we are working, including when hand delivering to customers. And the most important that I feel has helped the business stay above the rest is offering five-star customer service with every enquiry and order."

The Leader:

They are now offering a range of sweet treats, including cookies, rocky roads, cakes and cupcakes.

The business has changed its original name of Blooming Brownies to Blooming Baked - to cater for its growth in the variety of its product.

Daniel said: "We have explored the commercial sales market. Since January we have had massive success. Supplying a range of cafes, restaurants, children’s indoor soft play area’s and currently just going through the last processes of supplying a big major chain (Spar) in a few of their shops."

The Leader:

They are now about to open their first shop premises and commercial kitchen.

It is located at 20 Chester Road West, Shotton - next door to William Gleave estate agent and opposite NatWest bank. It will be opening on Friday, September 2.

Daniel said: "It’s hard to describe in words how excited and proud we are to now be opening our own shop. I can still picture the day like it was yesterday when I had the idea for the business during the first lockdown.

"It was started completely from nothing and has grown from strength to strength. We cannot wait to now have a physical presence in our local community and meet all of our customers face to face."

He added: "We hope everyone enjoys the baked treats as much as we enjoy baking them. We would also just like to take the opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers that we have had since starting our business, as cheesy as it sounds without our amazing customers there would not be a business."
