Only 5,556 products – that’s 39.1 per cent of the total products entered this year – received either a Great Taste 1, 2 or 3-star award, and of the 2,344 winning companies, 27 per cent are based outside of the UK.

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said, “I am pleased we have once again achieved Great Taste Awards.

"These awards are recognition of all the hard work and dedication of the entire team both on the farm and in our cutting plant.

"We pride ourselves on producing the best quality organic meat for our customers, whether they be in our farm shop, online or wholesale.

"The team is always striving to do better and that is how it should be.”

When it came to Rhug’s organic Welsh lamb chop the judges awarded two stars.

They said: “These are good sized chops, with a balance of fat and meat, neither dominating.

"The fat is full of flavour and caramelises well, and the meat is very tender and also full of flavour. It positively takes you to the pasture where the animal lived.”
