RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 26 OTMs to £1812 / 280ppk; 28 heifers to £1430; 64 steers to £1490; 26 stirks to £900; 73 calves to £315; one cow & calf to £1,790; 430 store lambs to £99; 684 breeding ewes to £190; 98 ewe & lamb couples to £308 and three pet lambs to £26.

Store cattle (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

Good numbers around again despite the adverse weather conditions during the morning.

One or two pre-notified vendors unable to venture out, but they will be with the auction next week.

A total of 148 cattle forward and a flying trade.

Meanwhile, 28 heifers forward with an overall average of £1103.52. 

Top price of £1430 went to Ifan Hughes, Four Crosses, selling a 20 month Lim.

Others:

25 month Lim £1380; 18 month Char £1270; 22 month BB £1165; 19 month BSH £1150; 13 month Lim £1135; 18 month Stabiliser x £1060; 16 month Her £840.

A tally of 64 steers forward with an overall average of £1182.46.

Top price of £1490 went to R G Roberts & Co, Berwynfa selling a 20 month Lim.

Others:

21 month AA £1390; 17 month Lim £1270; 22 month BB £1260; 13 month Lim £1150; 15 month BB £1140; 9 month Lim £965.

Plenty of pre-notified, quality cattle for next week.

Top price went to JG & EV Roberts, Simdde Hir, at £1812 for 56 month Lim weighing 755kg.

Top price per kilo went to GE & A Williams, Ty’n y Bryn, at 280ppk for a 33 month Lim weighing 610kg.

Quality calves forward. A credit to all vendors and they met a firm trade throughout.

Younger smaller calves slightly easier on the week.

Top price went to M W Roberts & Co, Bodynys selling a BB bull calf to £315.

Weanlings (auctioneer-Dafydd Parry):

Less numbers around due to the weather. Many more expected next week.

Top price went to Irwedd Griffiths, Y Waen selling a 19 month old Hereford bullock to £900.

AA heifer £820; 14 month AA bullock £640; 19 month BB heifer £820; 14 month BB heifer £790; 4 month Jersey x bullock £150.

In-lamb ewes (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):

Harder trade on all sorts with buyers starting to fill up.

Top price of £190 went to H Salt, Cae Dafydd, for Beltex yearlings.

Texel yearlings to £185; Aberfield fm to £145; Aberfield yearlings to £125; Beltex yearlings to £190; Aberfield 2/3 year olds to £120; Mule yearlings to £160; Speckled 2/3 year olds to £70; Tal y Bont fm to £85.

Overall average £142.90.

Store lambs (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A total of 430 store lambs forward and a very mixed show on offer.

The best, continental bred lambs still hitting the £90 mark, with longer term lambs around the £65 to £70 mark.

Strongest Welsh ram lambs to £60 with lighter types from £28 to £40. Welsh ewe lambs £30 to £38.

Top price went to D Jones, Camaes achieving £99 for Texel ewe lambs.

Overall average £51.43.

Ewe & lamb couples (auctioneer-Paul Roberts):

Less numbers about due to the adverse weather conditions, but still a good trade, especially on the stronger lambs.

Twins: Overall average £212.57; £70.86 a life.

Singles: Overall average £175.50; £87.75 a life.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,521 prime hoggets to £140 / 327.3ppk and 409 ewes to £134.

Prime hoggets (auctioneer-Elfor Morris):

A total of 1,521 lambs forward on the day to an SQQ of 250.7ppk.

Weather conditions affected the numbers on the day, but still a respectable amount entered.

A notable increase in trade, with an SQQ of 250 and an overall average of 247ppk.

Well finished, indoor fed lambs attracted the premium from 280ppk to 300ppk.

A tally of 877 medium weight lambs averaged 252ppk, with 265 standards averaging 245.ppk.

Heavies were a good trade.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 1,257 prime hoggets to £126 / 287.4ppk and 267 ewes to £152.

Prime hoggets (auctioneer-Rich Lloyd):

A good show of numbers despite the slipping trade.

Medium weight lambs continue to sell reasonably well averaging 236ppk on the day, but standards and lights harder to sell on the week.

SQQ was 219.4ppk.

Some excellent consignments of well finished Welsh lambs in the entry.

However, it’s unfortunate that they are taking the brunt of the slipping trade hovering around the £2 mark.

Export lambs still selling well up to 287.4ppk on the day.

48kg at £124 by Bellis & Co, Ty Hir.
