A CAERNARFON man who failed to attend his sentencing on time has been remanded in custody overnight by a judge.

Jamie Goodall, 43 and of 49 Pool Street, was supposed to appear at Caernarfon Crown Court at 10.45am on Thursday to be sentenced for a conviction for actual bodily harm.

The offence took place in Penrhosgarnedd, near Bangor.

Recorder Darren Bould had originally issued a warrant for Goodall’s arrest after he failed to show by midday, but the defendant was brought to court by a concerned friend at 12.15pm.

Mr Recorder Bould was told that Goodall "was not in a fit state" to attend at 10am and that he "apologised for a genuine mistake" and the warrant was withdrawn.

However, the judge told the defendant was unimpressed with his lateness and that the hearing would be rescheduled for 2.15pm on Friday and that "he did not trust" Goodall to attend, so remanded him in custody.

He said: “The information I was provided with is that he could and should have been here at 10.45am.

“But it is too important a case for us to rush through now so I will deal with it tomorrow.

“I am not satisfied with the explanation or being late and I don’t trust him.

“He’s going to be remanded in custody until tomorrow.

“In my view, there was no excuse as to why you couldn’t attend court on time and will be remanded in custody until tomorrow.”

The sentencing was adjourned because the barristers involved were no longer available.
