KIDS are clearly impressed by this new playground at Holme Wood.
The Bees' Knees play area, shown in this 1992 picture, offered various pieces of play equipment for young ones including a spider's web climbing frame, slide, train, seesaw and truck. No wonder families are making a beeline for it. The surface beneath no doubt complied with health and safety.
It's a far cry from the playgrounds of the 1960s and 70s with their hard Tarmac floors. Back then roundabouts spun at out-of-control speeds, often flinging children off, seesaws were simple planks of wood that rose so high you felt dizzy, before crashing down with a thud. But kids of the day loved it. Today's playgrounds mean kids are less likely to need Savlon and bandages afterwards.
