FIRE crews are tackling a blaze at a chemical manufacturing plant in Flintshire.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) is in attendance at the incident at the Synthite plant in Mold this afternoon (Tuesday, April 30).
Witnesses in the area have reported hearing multiple explosions. North Wales Police has closed the A541 Denbigh Road near the site.
The fire service has instructed people living near to Synthite to keep windows and doors shut.
A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.06pm to a fire at a factory on Denbigh Road, Mold.
"Four crews, the Incident Command Unit, the Hazardous material Unit and the Aerial Ladder Platform are in attendance tackling reports of a fire in the production area.
"Local residents are being asked to close windows and doors and avoid the area due to smoke and as a precautionary measure."
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "Due to an ongoing incident at Synthite in Mold can all residents in the Mold area please keep their doors and windows closed.
"Note that the A541 is closed from the junction with Dreflan to the junction with Black Brook Road Rhyd y Goleu."
Synthite has operated from the Alyn Works site at Denbigh Road, Mold, since the 1950s.
Its main product is formaldehyde, a basic building block of the chemical industry used in the manufacture of a vast array of everyday goods ranging from cosmetics to furniture and floorboards.
