AN event scheduled for this weekend will be remembering a giant of Denbigh.

This coming Saturday, January 27 (7pm) is marked by the 2018 Denbigh Mayor's charity concert.

Denbigh Town Hall will be the setting for the occasion, with the concert being held in memory of former town mayor and county councillor Raymond Bartley.

Topping the bill on the night will be Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir.

Formed back in 1933, the choir is regarded as one of the most accomplished and largest in North Wales.

The choir has enjoyed great success in competition over the years, gaining first prize at the National Eisteddfod on seven occasions, the most recent being in 2007.

Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir has also been victorious overseas, winning first prize at the Eire International Festival in Cork, while the choir has twice finished as the runner-up in the BBC Radio Wales Choir of the Year competition.

The choir is conducted by Ann Atkinson, from Corwen, who will also be singing at the concert.

Renowned for her fine musicianship, Ann is widely respected as both a conductor and as a freelance singer throughout the UK and abroad.

She became only the choir's sixth musical director when she succeeded Geraint Roberts in January 2015 and the first female director to take charge of the choir.

In addition to her singing career, Ann is the artistic director of the North Wales International Music Festival, the musical director of Bro Glyndwr Male Voice Choir and a vocal tutor for the William Mathias Music Centre.

Also joining in with the musical entertainment on January 27 will be tenor Elis Jones.

Tickets are priced at £10 and they're available from Siop Clwyd on 01745 813431 and Denbigh Chocolate Shop on 01745 814864.
