Two men have been cleared of a charge of aggravated burglary.

It had originally been alleged they burgled a flat in Vale Street, Denbigh, in July, when having with them a penknife, and stole two bank cards, £300 cash, a mobile phone, jacket and torch.

Kane Williams, aged 29, of Ffordd y Mynach, Mochdre, and Robert Shane Hughes, also 29, of Bryn Seion, Denbigh, pleaded not guilty in November and a trial was due later this month.

They appeared at Mold crown court via a live television link from Altcourse Prison in Liverpool where they had been on remand and the prosecution offered no evidence against them.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said that he was concerned that with both men in custody the decision had not been taken sooner.

Prosecuting barrister Ryan Rothwell said that the complainant had withdrawn his complaint and investigations had been going into why that had been so.

Following those investigations a decision had been taken to offer no evidence.

Judge Rowlands formally found them not guilty and said that they would be discharged.
