EDF Energy's website is currently down, as many people try to submit their meter readings on their account.

The main page of EDF Energy is working, but when you click through to the MyAccount page you are unable to log in.

A message on the page reads: "Sorry… We’re carrying out some essential maintenance work on our site. We’ll be up and running again soon."

This has coincided with many people wanting to submit their meter readings ahead of the energy price cap rise set to come into effect on Friday, April 1.

All the energy used by a household before that time can be charged at the cheaper rate, which is advice Martin Lewis gave to the public.

EDF customers have been frustrated by the website going down, as well as other energy suppliers having their websites struggle, like with E.On and British Gas.

One Twitter user posted: "On the day that we all need to update our Elec \ Gas meter readings. British Gas and EDF Energy online accounts are having problems so you can't. @BritishGas @edfenergy @MartinSLewis If I was a little bit more cynical I might think this was intentional."

Another user was sceptical of the timing, writing: "Went to submit an online meter reading for today’s deadline before price rises and EDF Energy’s login screen is “under maintenance”".
