LLANNERCHYMEDD 1

LLANDYRNOG UNITED 3

CUP progress has been made by the lads from Cae Nant.

Llandyrnog United avoided a potential banana skin as they progressed safely through to the last-16 of the Mawddach Cup with victory at Llannerchymedd.

With most games on Anglesey being called off, it was a surprise that the tie went ahead.

Llannerchymedd's first team pitch was deemed unplayable, meaning the tie took place on a pitch that's normally used as a warm-up area.

United knew they were in for a battle with the wet and windy conditions and it was the hosts who nearly made the ideal start, but they were thwarted by a good save from keeper Stuart Griffiths.

Slowly starting to get to grips with the conditions and pitch, Llandyrnog should have gone ahead when captain Mark Roberts broke through on goal, but his shot was well saved.

Luke Appleby then headed just wide, before a bizarre incident saw him have a goal chalked off for offside.

There was no flag from the linesman, but the referee decided to give the offside call himself from close to the halfway line!

United bagged the first goal and it came from a familiar source.

Mark Roberts curled home a beauty from 20 yards.

The second half saw a very professional display from the away side, pinning their hosts back and dealing well with any counter attacks.

An important second goal was scored by Josh Taylor.

After a corner fell at his feet, Taylor's left-footed effort found the top corner of the net.

It was three soon after when Mark Roberts got his second of the tie, firing home from Dan Porter's free kick.

Griffiths was called on to make a smart save late on, but he couldn’t stop the Division Two side grabbing a consolation.

Alex Webster was harshly adjudged to have fouled a player in the box and Mark Jones made no mistake from the spot.

Sam Lewis put in a strong display in an unfamiliar right back role, but it was Dion Jones who took the man of the match award with a dominant performance in midfield.
