AS achievements go, the one secured by Denbigh Town is one that is sure to live long in the memory of their loyal fan-base.

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ side secured the highest league finish in their history when they secured second spot in the Huws Gray Alliance behind Caernarfon Town, which is yet further proof of just how far they have come in recent years.

This is a squad littered with quality from top-to-bottom and they also benefit hugely from an ambitious chairman in Shon Powell, who has overseen the development of an all-seater stand as it continues to make significant progress towards a possible FAW Domestic Licence in the future.

Town also have a fantastic backroom staff working with Maurice-Jones, with club legend Richard Williams-Cooke returning to the set-up and providing a huge presence to motivate the squad, having won a Welsh Alliance double during his time at the helm before leaving due to other commitments.

While more fancied sides such as Rhyl and Airbus Broughton faltered in their attempts to secure the title, Denbigh managed to put together an extremely consistent season despite losing three of their opening four league contests, losing just three of 24 following their early jitters.

It says a lot about the amount of talent within the squad that they barely felt the loss of striker Josh Davies, who was a hugely influential figure throughout the first half of the season before he departed for New Zealand to play for Melville United.

A lot of this had to do with the form of Welsh Futsal international Craig Pritchard, who was one of the HGA’s standout performers throughout the campaign and further enhanced his reputation as one of the most gifted playmakers operating outside of the JD Welsh Premier League.

The return to the fold of powerful winger Kristian Pierce from Rhyl was another massive contributing factor in their success, while the likes of Steve Cunningham and Matty Worrall also have big futures ahead of them if they continue to show the sort of form they displayed this term.

In Keighan Jones and Jonathan Hill-Dunt they had two reliable shot-stoppers to call upon and their respective influences cannot be underestimate, and the defensive duo of Ben Nash and Danny Sullivan provided an assured presence in a back-line that conceded 43 league goals.

Warren Duckett and Gareth Partridge provided a great deal of energy from the middle of the park, and striker Andrew Swarbrick is another who has seemed to enjoy a new lease of life in-front of goal thanks in no small part to his relationship with Mauirce-Jones and Williams-Cooke.

If the Town boss can keep this core group of young players together during the summer, then there is no telling just how far this club can go. There are some fantastic and committed people working behind-the-scenes to ensure their long-term goals are met, and this has been replicated bythe commitment and consistency shown by the playing staff.

With Bangor City and Prestatyn Town entering the HGA fray next year, it is going to be more competitive than ever of that there is no doubt, but there is definitely something special happening at Denbigh Town thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone associated with a great club with a rich history of success.
