RUTHIN 203

LLANGOLLEN 149

DENBIGHSHIRE bragging rights belong to the lads from Memorial Park Fields.

Last weekend's North Wales Cricket League programme witnessed a Division Two clash between county rivals Ruthin and Llangollen, with the home side coming out on top to secure a 13-2 points triumph.

Looking to make the most of the overcast conditions, Llangollen opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

There was early joy for Llan, with James Moore-Stevens dismissing Ruthin opener Rhodri Edwards cheaply.

However, the home side's top order then clicked to make sure Ruthin compiled a match-winning total.

Michael Parton was the chief scorer courtesy of his fine knock of 65, well supported by the likes of Matthew Duckworth (40), Alun Jones (20), Will Jones (16) and opener Dafydd Roberts (10).

All of this meant that Ruthin reached 203 by the time they were bowled out in the 44th over.

Jordan Mash (3-19), Daniel Davies (2-22), Arthur Jenkins (2-41), James Moore-Stevens (2-52) and Tom Barry (1-12) shared the wickets for the visiting side.

Ruthin's spell in the field began in positive fashion, with Jamie Hulse bowling Llan opener Arthur Jenkins cheaply.

Although fellow opener Tom King struck (25), Ruthin looked to be on course for a large triumph, until Richard Hughes entered the fray.

Hughes was in fine form to top score with 53 and with good support from Tony Mash (24), Llangollen made 149 all out, just a boundary away from claiming a third point on the day.

Jamie Hulse (3-45) was Ruthin's chief wicket taker during the second portion of the afternoon, while there was also success for Dafydd Roberts (2-12), Harry Pooler (2-18), Matthew Duckworth (1-27) and Sandeep Anantharaman (1-42).
