RUTHIN 43

ALTRINCHAM KERSALL 15

RUTHIN began their preparations for the new WRU League Division One (North) season in fine fashion by claiming victory in their first friendly of the summer.

On Saturday, the Blues played host to cross-border visitors Altrincham Kersall.

In a game of four quarters of 25 minutes apiece, Ruthin ran away with the contest late on after a close beginning.

The sides were well matched and this led to an open and competitive game. Ruthin were the first team with points on the board courtesy of a try from hooker Danny Miller.

Altrincham evened things up and at the first break, the scoreline was 5-5

Turning to the second session, Cameron Lumsden grabbed a converted try for Ruthin, only Altrincham to respond with one of their own and the Blues were 12-10 ahead when the second break arrived.

In the last two session, Ruthin pulled away as Altrincham tired with a smaller squad.

Tries came from Ben Green, Jason Humphreys, Rich Williams and Ynyr Roberts, with Altrincham getting the final score to make sure that it finished up 43-15 in favour of the hosts.

This was a good workout for the Ruthin lads, who welcome Wrexham for their next pre-season match on Wednesday, August 22 (7.30pm).
