BARRY TOWN UNITED 3

BALA TOWN 2

EIGHT-MAN Bala Town have lost for the first time this season in the JD Welsh Premier League.

The Lakesiders had no fewer than three players sent off during their Sunday afternoon loss at the hands of hosts Barry Town United.

This was Bala's first away game of the season and it was they who bossed the opening 20 minutes in the August drizzle, with Henry Jones and Steven Tames causing issues early on.

The visitors opened the scoring with only 12 minutes on the clock.

Henry Jones delivered a fantastic ball into the area and this reached Chris Venables, who superbly headed it into the net.

With the visitors remaining on the front foot, chances went to Nathan Burke, Stuart Jones and Chris Venables, but Bala weren’t able to capitalise on their efforts.

Following this, Barry were level on 32 minutes.

A break came down the right hand side and when the ball was swung towards the back post, Hood was there to slot home.

A minute into injury time at the end of the first half and Barry Town United went ahead.

After taking the original free-kick early and receiving a booking, Fry fired the second attempt into the top left hand corner of the net to make it 2-1 to the home side.

Turning to the second half and there were opportunities for both sides.

Steven Tames fired over from close range for Bala and McLaggon almost making it 3-1 to the home side.

Bala's hopes of forging a fightback were hit with 20 minutes remaining when they were reduced to 10 men.

Sean Smith was the player dismissed after picking up a second yellow card.

The Lakesiders battled hard despite their numerical disadvantage and they impressively earned themselves a leveller.

Evan Horwood’s stunning cross picked out Chris Venables, who headed in his second of the afternoon.

However, from the restart Barry scored what seemed to be a slightly controversial goal through McLaggon.

This resulted in Horwood being red carded for allegedly disputing a hand ball shout.

Things got even worse for Bala minutes later Venables was also show a second yellow and dismissed for alleged dissent.
