CORWEN 85

RUTHIN 269-9

AN amazing lower order recovery helped Ruthin to gain maximum points from their weekend derby with Corwen.

The Dee Valley side looked to be in a good position as their visitors' innings drew to a close, but Ruthin's number nine, 10 and 11 added an amazing 132 runs to the tally.

Batting first Ruthin’s usually regular top order found things difficult, as William Pooler and Kamran Hassam bowled accurately.

With the first five batsmen going cheaply, it was left to Matthew Duckworth and Ollie Gray to repair the innings. Duckworth made 31 and Gray 29, but things got even better for the visitors lower down the order.

Number nine batsman Sandeep Anantharaman hit 40, before the last pair of Llyr Williams and Josh Duckworth remained not out.

Williams hit 38 and Josh Duckworth flayed an impressive unbeaten 54 as Ruthin somehow posted 269-9.

Nathan Murray (4-68) was the home side's chief wicket taker, while Kamran Hassan was in impressive form to grab 3-21.

Other wickets went to William Pooler (1-18) and Matthew Dymock (1-25).

When Corwen batted, it was Sandeep’s turn to do damage with the ball.

For the second time in a few weeks, he took five wickets. Once Hassan (39) and Murray (27) had gone for Corwen, there wasn’t that much resistance as Harry Pooler took two wickets and Llyr Williams one.

Josh Duckworth capped off a great day with a run out as Corwen were all out for 85.
