MYNYDD ISA 158

RUTHIN 159-7

ALL Ruthin can do now is to wait.

A crucial weekend success at Mynydd Isa has pushed the side from Memorial Park Fields up into the North Wales Cricket League Division Two promotion places.

However, after completing their fixtures, Ruthin could be knocked out of the top-two this weekend.

Both Carmel and Mynydd Isa could still overtake Ruthin on what promises to be a thrilling final day.

For Ruthin to gain promotion, they need Buckley to beat Carmel this weekend and Corwen to take at least three points from Mynydd Isa.

They at least gave themselves a chance of promotion with a hard-fought triumph at Mynydd Isa.

The home side decided to make first use of the batting track after they called correctly during the pre-match toss.

Although there were good top order efforts from the likes of captain Paul Kearney (34) and Carl Jutson (38), the Ruthin bowlers stuck to their task over the course of the innings.

All of the five-man attack picked up wickets, led by Matthew Duckworth (4-43) and Sion Hughes (3-21).

Other wickets went the way of Josh Duckworth (1-18), Llyr Williams (1-27) and Sandeep Anantharaman (1-32) as Mynydd Isa were bowled out for 158 in the concluding over.

Bowling star Matthew Duckworth was also the top batsman as Ruthin successfully achieved an 11-4 points triumph.

Batting at number four, Duckworth hit a vital 66 to help push the total along, before he became one of four leg before victims.

There were also important knocks from Josh Duckworth (22), Sion Hughes (13) and Michael Parton (10), before Wil Jones and Rhys Hilditch led the visitors to success.

Both Jones and Hilditch hit 18 not out as Ruthin reached a winning 164-7 with 26 deliveries remaining.
