DINBYCH 2NDS 25

MACHYNLLETH 11

IN-FORM Dinbych 2nds continue to rule the roost in Division Three (North).

A third bonus point triumph of the campaign was gathered by the lads from Caeau Les Phillips when they welcomed Machynlleth over the weekend.

The early stages see-sawed from one half of the pitch to the other.

Good pressure from the visitors forced a panicked pass, which gifted Machynlleth the put-in at a scrum just outside Dinbych’s 22.

After pressure from the visitors, they took the lead courtesy of a successful penalty.

More Machynlleth pressure resulted in another penalty award in Dinbych territory and another successful kick made it 6-0.

Dinbych continued to weather several attacks from Machynlleth, who kept their opponents pinned in their own half for large periods of the game.

Just before half-time, Dinbych hit back from a lineout on Machynlleth’s 22.

With the ball being secured at the lineout, the back line showed great handling skills to put winger Dylan Easton in at the corner for a superb finish.

The interval team talk from Ivor Williams and Llion Edwards must have worked wonders for Dinbych.

Several strong carries into Machynlleth’s half were rewarded when the referee penalised the visitors for illegally slowing the ball down.

Further pressure from Dinbych saw Machynlleth penalised again, with quick-thinking scrum half Robyn Cartwright setting up his half back partner Iwan Johnson to put his brother Rhys Johnson in for an unconverted try.

A moment of madness from a Machynlleth prop saw him red carded for a swinging arm tackle, but the reduction in numbers did nothing to dampen the visitors' appetite for attacking.

Following multiple carries from the pack, they soon crossed Dinbych’s five-metre line and looked in no mood for leaving without a try.

And so it was as a final quick pass supplied a grinning Machynlleth forward to crash over for an unconverted try.

From the restart, Dinbych slowly increased the pressure on their opponents.

Cartwright supplied full back Tom Wynne, whose pace outstripped the covering defence for a fine try.

Replacement winger Ben Reed kicked the conversion.

Winger Reed would need his kicking tee once again soon after to slot over a penalty from 30 metres out.

Sensing that time was against, Machynlleth threw everything at the home side, with wave after wave of short-range carries seeing them desperate to reach Dinbych’s line.

Outside centre Andrew Wilson was sent to the sin bin for deliberately knocking the ball on, while Dinbych tackled like men possessed to keep the visitors out.

A counter ruck by Dinbych dispossessed Machynlleth and the ball was sent upfield to relieve the incessant pressure.

A good chase was rewarded when a poor kick by Machynlleth was fielded and ran back by flanker Rhys Johnson.

The ball was then taken upfield by lock Rory Tolley, whose timely offload allowed fly half Iwan Johnson to jink past the covering defence to score his side’s fourth try of the afternoon.
