CAERWYS exited the Mike Beech Memorial Trophy with a narrow 2-1 home defeat at the hands of in-form Flint Mountain.
Despite the eventual result it was the home side who held a slender advantage at the interval when Sam Edwards reacted first to some confusion in the penalty area to prod the ball over the line after 20 minutes of play.
Edwards was the standout performer on the day for the hosts, but unfortunately he suffered a distinct lack of support from his forward-thinking teammates throughout which played a significant role in their eventual downfall.
The turning point arrived after the break when John Newtown was shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on the hour mark, and the visitors wasted no time in making their numerical advantage count when Jack Aitken rounded off a fine team move after 63 minutes.
The lively Edwards almost put the home side ahead once again with two fine efforts which were unable to find the net, and they were dealt a cruel blow in the closing stages when the Mountain Men netted a crucial winner on 85 minutes through a fierce left-footed drive from John Edmonds.
