CORWEN produced a fine display to advance to the JD Welsh Cup first round with a 4-0 win at Lex Glyndwr.

Danny Jellicoe's side now face the prospect of a daunting trip to Huws Gray Alliance side Holyhead Hotspur in the next stage of the competition, which presents the talented young manager with a fantastic opportunity to enhance the growing reputation of his side.

Joe Williams almost put the away side ahead early on when he shot over after latching on to a Scott Evans delivery, but they did manage to break the deadlock soon after when Sam Henry conjured up some magic before firing into the net following neat approach play from Ryan Davidson and Harry Pooler.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who went close to levelling matters when Dylan Jones fired a free-kick over the bar, and they were made to pay for this miss on 25 minutes when Henry burst clear and finished well for his second of the tie.

A powerful shot from Dominic Doherty forced Dylan Jones into a smart stop, and Andrew Nightingale’s header flashed wide during an impressive spell from the home side.

Henry’s fine attempt at a hat-trick towards the end of the half was thwarted by the post, and veteran former professional Tom Mutton sent a strike over the bar after the substitute linked up well with Eilir Edwards.

After the break saw Lex reduced to ten men after a robust challenge from Jamie Push on Nathan Davies, and the visitors took full advantage on 56 minutes when a clever dummy from Mutton presented another chance to Henry, who made no mistake to secure his treble.

The prolific forward was in irresistible form and rounded off a sensational afternoon at the office after 65 minutes when his effort from a Kyle Jones pass found the corner for his fourth to complete the rout.
