BALA Town boss Colin Caton is seeking a sweet 16 points to make sure his side are in the correct half of the table come the Welsh Premier League's mid-season split.

The competitive nature of the league is apparent this season, with a fierce battle taking place to achieve a top-six position.

The Lakesiders are currently fifth in the standings with 14 points, which is almost halfway to the target that has been pencilled in by Caton.

"We have got to try and get into that top-six," he said.

Caton is looking at reaching 30 points, which he feels will guarantee a position in the top-six of the standings come the mid-season split.

"We have got to get there as soon as we can," he added.

Next up for Bala is a home meeting with third-placed Newtown on Friday (7.45pm).

"Newtown have always been a strong team and Chris Hughes is a good manager," said Caton.

"We have got to fight for every point in this league."

Bala go into the match on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in the league, which includes last weekend's 2-2 draw at Gwynedd rivals Caernarfon Town.

"They battled back twice at Caernarfon, but the goals we conceded were horrific," said Caton.

"We should have gone on and won it.

"Definitely, we have picked up away from home, with two draws in the league and the 6-1 win at Flint."

Looking ahead to the visit of Newtown, the Bala boss said: "We will be at full strength this weekend and everyone is available.

"The last time I could say that was probably 10 years ago!

"I would rather that than be struggling with injuries.

"The league has improved massively and everyone has got access to these InStats.

"It's been a big investment from the Welsh Premier League, the analysing of players."

In further good news for the Lakesiders, the club has won the Welsh Premier League's goal of the month award for September.

Mike Hayes’ lob against Aberystwyth Town was chosen by Marc Lloyd Williams as Bala won the award for the second consecutive month.

"It was a fantastic finish," added Caton.

"Mike's pushing for a starting place at the weekend."
