BARRY TOWN UNITED 1

A FIRST home loss of the season marked the weekend from the perspective of Bala Town.

It was a tough Saturday afternoon for the Lakesiders, who came up against a strong Barry Town United side in a Maes Tegid clash between the teams lying third and fourth in the JD Welsh Premier League.

The visitors were in bright form from the outset and it seemed only a matter of time before they opened the scoring.

Barry duly did this in the seventh minute.

Bala lost possession on the left wing, which allowed the visitors to break and pick out Mo Touray, who slotted home from just outside the six-yard box.

Bala had a good chance of their own when some quick passes from Steven Tames and Chris Venables led to Ian Sheridan firing over the crossbar, before Tames’ half-volley went wide on 27 minutes.

An excellent opportunity went Bala's way after half-an-hour.

Nathan Burke’s powerful strike from the edge of the box was brilliantly blocked by Cooper.

Mo Touray was creating plenty of problems for the Lakesiders at the other end of the pitch and he almost doubled his lead on 37 minutes, but Bala number one Ashley Morris was solid and he pushed the ball away.

Down the other end, Ian Sheridan’s shot was saved by Lewis before the interval.

The second half should have seen Bala get a goal back before the hour-mark when they had two cracking chances to level.

The first came when a fast counter attack saw Tames and Kieran Smith both have successive chances to shot, but they didn’t.

Then, a superb one-two between Smith and Venables led to Tames having a shot blocked from six yards out.

The influential Touray went close for Barry again when Green’s break came into his path, however he struck over the woodwork.

Soon after, Bala were handed a lifeline to get back level.

A penalty was awarded after a Barry defender handled the ball in the box on 77 minutes.

However, Chris Venables’ strong effort flew over the bar to sum up Bala’s frustrating afternoon.

In the final minute, another Steven Tames effort was blocked after good play by Bala.
