COLIN Caton has been making no case for the defence.

The Bala Town boss was unhappy with his side's defending during the last gasp Welsh Premier League loss at the hands of Aberystwyth Town on Saturday.

Victory would have seen the Lakesiders level on points with leaders The New Saints, but Declan Walker's injury time strike handed Aberystwyth a 3-2 success.

"We lost on Saturday and it was three horrendous goals that we gave away," said Caton.

"We work so hard in training to work on our defending.

"It was just poor.

"People say Aberystwyth have done well for the goals, but they were poor goals.

"We will address it in training."

There are reasons to be cheerful at the other end of the pitch, though, and striker Steven Tames is level with Greg Draper, of The New Saints, at the head of the top scorers' list.

The duo have bagged 12 goals in the league this season and Tames was on target twice versus Aberystwyth.

"Steve Tames is doing really well," said Caton.

"Last season our defence was really strong and we were not scoring much.

"We won six-or-seven games one-nil.

"We can't complain and we are three points off the top.

"But we can be better and that's the frustrating thing.

"It's important we are competing at the top."

Bala are currently in fourth position, just three points adrift of leaders The New Saints, while they are four points ahead of seventh-placed Caernarfon Town in the race to secure a top-six finish.

"I don't know how many points we will need mathematically.

"Cardiff Met could come into it, but there's only seven games left before the split," said Caton.

"Some teams have got to win four-or-five games (to get into the top-six)."
