IN the midst of the cut and thrust of the Denbigh Golf Club's winter league, one member stood out head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

David A Jones returned a magnificent 46 points to comfortably win week six.

Always a consistent performer, Jones played his best golf to date off a handicap of 16 and the feeling is that his new handicap of 13 is unlikely to keep him out of the points in week seven.

With 145 members participating, the scores were yet again impressive and both the silver and bronze divisions were fiercely competitive.

The silver division was won by Nigel Jones with 42 points.

His round included an eagle two on the sixth hole.

Regular winter league scorer Paul Mazurek was the runner-up with 41 points.

Turning to the bronze division and thus was even more fiercely fought out, with Brian Peters pipping Gerald Parry on a back nine countback after both players returned a score of 42 points.

With 30 members picking up points, the league table has a new leader.

Paul Mazurek has emerged from those players just behind last week's leading pack and has taken over at the top of the table on 38 points.

Marc Shaw has also put himself very much in the picture

as a result of consistent returns over the last few weeks, which have enabled him to accumulate 32 points.

Darren Foulkes, George Williams and Elwyn Thomas make up the top five places and a mere six points separate first and fifth.
