RUTHIN TOWN 3

CONWY BOROUGH 2

A FANTASTIC fightback maintained Ruthin Town's brilliant spell of form in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Chris Williams' charges trailed visitors Conwy Borough 2-0 after only 12 minutes, but they brilliantly battled back to win 3-2 and stretch their run of victories in the league to three matches.

Gethin Maxwell gave Conwy the lead after just two minutes.

It was 2-0 soon after.

Ruthin number one Ryan Goldston saved Corrig McGonigle's initial penalty, but the striker netted the rebound.

Conwy could have had a third goal, but for Goldston tipping a shot against the bar and then saving at the feet of onrushing Conwy strikers.

Llyr Morris settled Ruthin down with a penalty of his own to cut the deficit.

Tom Williams was upended in the penalty area and Morris bagged his 10th league goal of the campaign from the spot.

Both sides played some good football during the second half.

Often when two teams are playing well, it provides a platform for someone to do something inspirational.

Enter Tom Williams in the 52nd minute!

With Ruthin still looking for that elusive equaliser, Williams picked the ball up just inside the Conwy half on the left.

He beat a man and struck a wonderful right-footed shot from fully 35 yards into the top corner of the net.

Williams was in the thick of the action when Ruthin claimed the lead two minutes later.

He put in a great cross for Gwion Owen to head the ball back across the keeper for another good goal.

As the game drew to a close, Ruthin rode their luck during the last 10 minutes, with Conwy pushing for an equaliser.

Ryan Goldston was forced into two good saves and more importantly, McGonigle missed his second penalty on 85 minutes by hitting the post.

Ruthin had chances of their own towards the end as a Lewys Turner shot went just wide, but they were happy to win their third game in succession to consolidate their top-six position.
