GLAN Conwy turned up the heat on Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two leaders Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs with a thumping 5-0 win at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

The title hopefuls took full advantage of the Amateurs’ first home defeat at the hands of Kinmel Bay to close the gap at the summit to nine points, with Glan also having the benefit of two games in hand on their championship rivals.

Things started well for the visitors and they went ahead after 17 minutes when Connor Davies converted a chance, and the away side doubled their tally soon after when prolific forward Merrick Knight finished well following a period of pressure.

This pattern of play continued after the break, with Glan notching a third on 65 minutes when Morgan Owen turned in an opportunity, and the same player was on hand to despatch his second of the contest with 70 gone.

There was still time to rub further salt in to the hosts’ wounds, and once again it was Davies who was the beneficiary of some neat build-up play for his brace to round off the scoring.

Struggling Mochdre Sports remain second from bottom in the standings after a disappointing 7-1 home defeat to Aberffraw.

A hat-trick apiece from Gary Boulton and Richard Roberts did the majority of the damage for the visitors, with Connor Rees also on target late on.
