RHOS AELWYD 2

CORWEN 3

HOW important will this result prove to be when May arrives?

Corwen trailed hosts Rhos Aelwyd 2-0 in the first half, but Wrexham Area League Premier Division title chasers battled back in fine fashion to record a crucial triumph.

After a quarter-of-an-hour, Ryan Billington was clattered while playing a ball into the box and Dale Davies' effort went over the bar as he slid in.

Five minutes later and Scott Evans' shot forced a save from Danny Roberts, who then saved Dale Davies' follow-up effort with his leg.

Ryan Billington had to leave the field after a collision with Dafydd Robertson and he was replaced by Alex Webster.

It was Rhos Aelwyd who claimed the lead after half-an-hour.

Ieuan Jones wasn't closed down and he fired the ball into the far corner of the net.

Dylan Jones pulled off a fingertip save a couple of minutes later, before the hosts doubled their lead in the 34th minute.

James Haynes' shot took a wicked defection off a defender and the ball went beyond Jones' reach.

Corwen's response was first rate and they levelled things up prior to the break.

On 38 minutes, Sam Henry's free kick was tipped against the crossbar and away from a corner.

From this set piece, Iorwerth ‘Ioz’ Jones had a tap in to give Corwen a foothold in the game.

A minute before the break and it was two-apiece.

After some great build-up play, Sam Henry sent a cross into the box and it was played on to Joe Williams, who placed the ball home from close range.

Henry went close to giving Corwen the lead in stoppage time as he sent a shot across the face of the goal, which ended up narrowly wide.

Corwen completed a goal-den spell when they claimed the lead in the 50th minute.

Sam Henry's free kick from 30 yards out was brilliantly curled over the wall and into the top corner of the net.
