MOLD YOUTH 3

DINBYCH YOUTH 27

DETERMINED Dinbych Youth produced one of their best performances of the season to beat hosts Mold.

The early exchanges were dominated by the larger Mold pack, but as they did all game, Dinbych defended superbly, especially through the forwards.

It was Dinbych who opened the scoring after 20 minutes when scrum-half and captain Rowan Hughes threw a dummy pass from a the back of a ruck two metres out and dived over the line.

This try was converted by Owen Jones.

Mold replied with three points from a penalty, but shortly before half-time, Owen Jones slotted over a long range penalty to make the score 10-3 in Dinbych's favour.

Dinbych were indebted to hooker Tom Jones, who made a couple of excellent last ditch turnovers to keep his side's advantage at seven points going into the second half.

The second period followed a similar pattern, with the Mold pack hammering away at a resolute Dinbych defence.

However, the visitors began to find some rhythm and the Mold lineout was constantly disrupted by the excellent Ioan Minshull in the second row.

From one such disrupted lineout, Dinbych centre Jac Jones burst through the Mold defence and he managed to release a pass to fellow centre Harley Jones, who slipped a great ball for winger Ryan Davenport to score in the corner.

The third try was all down to centre Harley Jones, who chased a long kick into the Mold 22.

The ball was picked up by the home full-back, but Jones put in a thunderous tackle that caused possession to be spilled directly into the hands of Rowan Hughes, who scored under the posts.

This try was converted by Owen Jones.

The final score came through the backs when Jac Jones fielded a long kick and ran it back into the Mold 22, passing inside for Owen Jones to crash over.

The whole Dinbych squad of 18 deserve praise for an excellent performance against a very good Mold team.
