PENTRAETH 5

LLANNEFYDD 5

(Llannefydd won 3-1 on penalties)

WHAT a way for Llannefydd to reach the last-eight of a knockout competition!

They travelled to fellow Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division Two outfit Pentraeth in the second round of the Mawddach Challenge Cup.

The sides shared 10 goals over a thrilling two hours as the tie went to penalties and Llan made their way through when they triumphed 3-1 on spot kicks.

Llan looked to be in the box seat when they built-up a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes.

Captain Elgan Roberts gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot, before Brad Jones doubled the advantage.

Back came Pentraeth, though, and they levelled things up by the time the half-time whistle was sounded.

Llannefydd enjoyed a promising start to the second half and man of the match Ciran Jones struck to regain the lead 10 minutes after the restart.

Ed Jones grabbed the other Llan goal in normal time, but two efforts from Pentraeth ensured it was 4-4 after 90 minutes.

Ciran Jones second goal regained the lead for Llannefydd in the 100th minute, but again Pentraeth responded and they made it five-apiece.

The drama continued through to the penalty shootout, which was won by the visitors.

In the quarter-finals, Llannefydd will head to Division One side Llanrwst United.
