CORWEN RESERVES 9

BRICKFIELD RANGERS RES 0

IT turned out to be a goal-den weekend for Corwen Reserves in Wrexham Area League action.

The War Memorial Park lads eased to a 9-0 Reserves' Division success in their home meeting with Brickfield.

The home side got off to a great start and they were ahead after just eight minutes.

After a great first touch, Joe Williams placed the ball into the back of the net.

Two minutes later and some great build-up play from the hosts resulted in the ball being played to Ryan Billington, who found the back of the net with a great finish.

Corwen were three goals to the good in the 17th minute as the ball was played to Sam Henry, who picked his spot before curling an effort home.

Dominic Doherty could have made it four just before the break, but he curled the ball just wide.

The hosts went hunting for more goals in the second half.

Nathan Davies went close as his shot kissed the crossbar.

Corwen did make it four-nil just before the hour mark.

Joe Williams' dangerous centre was tapped into the net by substitute Tommy Mutton.

It became five-nil when Sam Evans went on a long run before passing the ball to Tommy Mutton.

He pinged it across to Sam Henry, who set up Joe Williams to double his tally for the afternoon with a tap in.

Iorwerth Jones was denied by keeper Rhys Stanhope soon afterwards, while Corwen didn't have to wait too long to grab a sixth goal.

Sam Henry's cross caused a scramble in the box and the ball landed at the feet of Mutton, who tapped in his second goal.

Corwen celebrated a magnificent seventh goal two minutes later.

Good build-up play resulted in Joe Williams completing his hat-trick from close range.

With just under a quarter-of-an-hour left to play, there was a candidate for save of the season.

Sam Henry's overhead kick was heading towards the ground until Stanhope readjusted brilliantly to get down low and divert the ball over the bar.

A lighting quick attack soon saw Corwen grab an eighth goal.

Sam Henry was the creator once more and Joe Williams bagged his fourth goal of the contest via a powerful first time shot.

Williams became the provider in the 84th minute as he played the ball back to Tommy Mutton, who put his shot narrowly wide of the far post.

However, a minute later, Mutton did manage to complete his hat-trick.

Mutton had the chance to score a fourth goal in the final minute, but his shot was saved.
