WREXHAM 0

CORWEN LADIES 2

THIS was an eagerly awaited matches, having been postponed for bad weather a few weeks earlier.

With the advantage of the slope, Corwen started brightly and they attacked well on both flanks.

Elisa Williams and Llywela Edwards got some good crosses in, with the new forward line of Sophie Hodson and Seren Williams working hard.

Corwen had the host firmly pinned in their own half and it came as no surprise when they took the lead.

Llywela Siriol Edwards blasted home a left-footed effort just inside the box.

Soon after, the same player bundled the ball over the line with the use of her hand, which was spotted by the referee.

Towards the end of the half, Wrexham clawed themselves back into the contest by placing an extra player in the heart of the midfield.

This caused central Corwen players Katie Armstrong and Alex Gore-Rees to be slightly over-run, but the back four of Amelia Evans, Lucie White, Rachel Roberts and pocket dynamo Ffion Evans kept the host at bay, only leaving goalkeeper Elliw Ford to deal with a few long distance shots.

Corwen altered their tactics in the second half to cope with the conditions, employing a high line and a 10-woman pressing game.

The visitors swamped Wrexham like bees around a jam pot and they doubled their advantage.

Substitute Thalia Christian-McGrail pounced on indecisive defending to lash home from close range.

Restricting Wrexham to one shot on target throughout the second half, praise must be given to the Corwen side for their application, willingness to run and work for each other - team work at is very best.

Corwen Ladies' next match is at Bethel on March 3 in the semi-finals of the North East Wales Cup.
