PRESTATYN Running Club’s women outshone the men in the fifth fixture of the Borders Road-Running League in Birkenhead on Sunday.

A strong team performance landed them fourth place in Division One on the day.

The men, lacking a few of their usual counters, were sixth on the day and now lie fifth overall with two races left.

In-form Andy Bromley had a superb run, chalking up a rare victory over Steve Skates while finishing just seven seconds ahead of him.

Amie Bagnall was second lady home and lies second in the senior ladies’ individual table.

While four laps of Birkenhead Park seemed a lot for some, Gareth Roberts completed no less than 105 laps of the track in the Groundhog Marathon in Telford on Saturday.

He finished 17th in a time of 3-54.03.

On the same day, Nigel Bakewell picked up a gold medal for coming in the top 100 in the Chester 50-mile ultra race.

He placed 98th out of 271 competitors, clocking 10 hours and 50 minutes.

Two members joined the large field for the Anglesey half-marathon and they finished just seven seconds apart.

Hadyn Johnson clocked 2-09.15 and super-vet Dafydd Owen 2-09.22.

Four of those who raced at Birkenhead had turned out in parkruns the previous day and they included Steve Skates, who won at Bodelwyddan.
