ROBIN Jones gatecrashed the Wingmen's championship party as Masons A grabbed the Denbigh and District Darts League's A-title from under the noses of their great rivals in a last game of the season shootout.

The Wingmen held a one-point advantage as they travelled to the Masons, knowing at least a draw would hand them the title.

Meanwhile, Masons A needed a win to secure the honours.

First blood went to the Wingmen with a fine Kelvin Williams win.

The Mighty Masons reeled off the next three ties courtesy of Eifion Hughes, Mark Webster and Clwyd county ace Dave Davies, while the next two matches were shared.

There was a Wingmen victory for Nick Hailes and a Masons win supplied by veteran Adie Thomas.

With the game at 4-2 in favour of the home side, Dil Martin dragged the Wings unit back into contention with a slugfest 2-1 over fellow former individual champ Steve Gierke.

Fittingly, the title would be decided on the last game of the evening, with the slow deliberate throw of Robin Jones facing off against the quickfire Danny Tinney.

Jones showed brilliant composure as he slotted in double 18 in the second leg of the tie for the Masons to dramatically retain the title with a 5-3 overall win and condemn runners-up the Wingmen to a first loss in 16 games.

Wings B were crowned B-League champions and they will feast at the top table next summer after grabbing the title with a draw at White Lion B.

Initially, Wings B needed a 5-3 victory before the evening commenced, but the 4-4 scoreline was enough to secure the B-League honours due to White Lion A failing to win at the Cons.

The White Lion A were dealt a further blow as Golden Lion C leapfrogged them into the runners-up spot on the back of their 5-3 victory at the Plough Inn.

They grabbed second place by just a two-leg difference.
