DENBIGH 84-1

PWLLHELI 79

DENBIGH are the joint leaders of the Premier Division of the North Wales Cricket League following a sparkling display on the opening day.

Under the blazing sun at Ystrad Road, skipper Harrison Jones led from the front as Denbigh thrashed visitors Pwllheli by nine wickets to open their campaign in the best possible manner.

Everything went in Denbigh's favour over the course of the day, including the fact that they won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Pwllheli's innings lasted for less than 28 overs and they found themselves being bowled out for just 79.

Harrison Jones finished with stand out figures of 5-13 from his 8.3 overs, while Sam Lewis returned 3-22 from eight overs.

There were also wickets for opening bowlers Jack Griffiths (1-14) and Andy Clarke (1-27).

Denbigh were keen to wrap up victory rapidly and they came storming out of the blocks when it was their turn to bat.

The hosts reached 45-0 in just five overs, while they lost a wicket with the score on 55 in the sixth over.

Harrison Jones struck six fours in his quickfire knock of 28.

Progress was more sedate after this, with Gerallt Lyall and Tom Schrimshaw (6 not out) guiding Denbigh to a winning 84-1 in the 16th over.

Lyall struck five boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 28.

When the dust had settled, Denbigh accumulated 14 points from their efforts, which sees them sit level at the top of the table with Northop.
