BALA TOWN 1

CAERNARFON TOWN 0

WHAT a way to end the campaign!

Bala Town ended the regular Welsh Premier League season with back-to-back wins.

An excellent performance gave the Lakesiders a 1-0 success in their Gwynedd derby at home to Caernarfon Town, handing them plenty of confidence and momentum going into the play-offs.

Bala came firing out of the blocks and they should have been ahead after 20 seconds.

Mike Hayes outran Ryan Williams, but placed his shot wide from 15 yards.

Henry Jones opened the scoring after three minutes.

Kieran Smith set up Hayes, who curled the ball in to Jones and he headed in from six yards out to make it 1-0.

The Lakesiders were doing well and they could have gone further ahead when Smith saw his shot being collected by Ramsay.

Jones capitalised on Ramsay dropping the ball, but unfortunately for the Bala player he put it wide of the post after 20 minutes.

The hosts were seeing plenty of the ball and they were working well, with Hayes almost adding a second as he tried to get on the end of Jones’ direct ball across the face of goal.

A minute before the interval and Hayes had a golden opportunity when he got on the end of Nathan Burke’s through ball, but he put it just wide of the far post.

The visitors came more into the game in the second half.

They had good spells of pressure, but they were not able to create anything of significance to trouble Bala keeper Keighan Jones.

Cai Jones fired over the crossbar, followed by Keighan Jones making a solid save to deny Darren Thomas' long range strike.

However, Bala were defending well and they were looking to add a second goal.

Hayes, who was making his 100th league start, should have got on the scoresheet, but he was denied by a cracking save by Ramsay after Sean Smith’s great ball.

Two minutes from time Noah Edwards unleashed a fierce strike from the edge of the D which rocketed against the post to deny the Canaries an equaliser.
