CORWEN 138-7

MARCHWIEL WREXHAM 136-8

THE timing was perfect as Corwen secured a fine weekend win.

Playing host to Marchwiel Wrexham in Division Two of the North Wales Cricket League, the War Memorial Park side secured victory with an over to spare.

Key to their success was an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 57 between Will Roberts and William Pooler, which guided Corwen to an 11-4 points triumph.

Corwen skipper Kevin Sharp won the pre-match toss and his message back to the changing room was for the opening bowlers to get themselves warmed up.

And warm they were as Marchwiel Wrexham experienced a tricky opening to the contest.

A run out and a wicket from Pooler (1-16) reduced the visitors to 25-2.

Recovery was in the offing courtesy of a 57-run partnership for the third wicket, compiled by Michael Forgrave (49) and Ryan Williams (26).

However, with Nathan Aldridge in fine form with the ball, Corwen were able to keep the innings in check.

Difficult to get away, Aldridge finished up with a 3-11 return from his 10 overs as the visitors were restricted to 136-8 from their 45 overs.

There was also a wicket for Will Roberts (1-17).

As with the earlier innings, Corwen found themselves being reduced to 25-2 when it was their turn to bat.

Nathan Aldridge struck 20 at the top of the order, but Marchwiel Wrexham kept the innings in check in the main.

When Corwen were reduced to 81-7, the visitors appeared to be on the cusp of victory.

However, Corwen would conclude the contest on the front foot and the performances of Will Roberts and William Pooler sealed the deal.

Man of the match Roberts finished up unbeaten on 68, hitting seven fours and a six along the way.

Meanwhile, Pooler made 16 not out as the duo put together an unbroken partnership of 57 to lead Corwen to a three-wicket triumph with an over to spare.

Michael Forgrave (2-12) was the pick of th Marchwiel Wrexham bowlers.
