CONNAH'S QUAY 91

DENBIGH 183

THE lead at the top of the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division is now up to 10 points for Denbigh.

Continuing their superb start to the campaign, the Ystrad Road side eased to a 92-run success during their weekend visit to Connah's Quay.

This was win number four this season for Denbigh and they find themselves 10 points clear of second-placed Bangor with almost a quarter of the campaign completed.

Denbigh skipper Harrison Jones took the bat first option after winning the toss.

Initially, this didn't turn out to be the correct decision, with the visitors' top-three being dismissed cheaply.

Recovery was soon in the offing, though, spearheaded by the efforts of number six Tom Schrimshaw.

He top scored with an excellent 67 before being run out, while middle order support was offered by the likes of Sam Lewis (22) and Joe Clayton (13).

With other decent efforts later in the innings from Andy Clarke (28) and Jack Griffiths (10 not out), Denbigh were eventually bowled out for 183 in the 46th over.

Callum Miller (3-38) was Connah's Quay's chief wicket-taker.

A fine display from Denbigh's four-man attack made sure that the home side didn't threaten to secure victory.

Jack Griffiths (2-21) and Andy Clarke (1-29) did the damage towards the top of the order, while Sam Lewis and Harrison Jones led Denbigh to victory.

Lewis was the star man with the ball courtesy of his 4-8 return from 5.1 overs.

Captain Harrison Jones grabbed 2-31 as Connah's Quay were bowled out for 91 in the 27th over.

Denbigh gathered 14 of the 15 points on offer to strengthen their position at the top.
