RUTHIN 240-9

CARMEL 157

A BRILLIANT opening partnership set Ruthin on their way to securing a first victory of 2019.

Following a testing start to the season, the Memorial Park Fields side claimed their first success of the campaign courtesy of a thumping triumph at home to Carmel.

The margin of victory was 83 runs, although Ruthin would have claimed a maximum 15 points if it hadn't been for a decent last wicket stand from Carmel.

The Flintshire visitors won the toss and they opted to spend the early portion of the afternoon in the field.

It wasn't the greatest of decisions and a 147-run stand for the first wicket had Ruthin in the box seat.

This partnership was compiled by Dafydd Roberts (67) and Michael Parton (62).

Ruthin made the most of this fine start to make a powerful 240-9 from their 50 overs.

Adding to the tally were Duncan Roberts (24), Rhys Hilditch (15) and Sandeep Anantharaman (10).

Anantharaman was then the star with the ball as Carmel were dismissed for 157 in reply.

He picked up a fine 5-37, well supported by Sion Hughes (3-26) and Jamie Hulse (1-30).

Gwion Dafydd (50) and Barry McGauty (37) were the main scorers for the visitors.
