RUTHIN 280-9

BERSHAM 79

IT'S now back-to-back wins for Ruthin thanks to a brilliant showing.

The Memorial Park Fields outfit was completely on top during Saturday's North Wales Cricket League Division One contest at home to Bersham.

They claimed maximum points on the day courtesy of a thumping 201-run margin of victory, which moved Ruthin into a mid-table position.

Everything went in Ruthin's favour during the course of the afternoon, including the fact that they won the toss.

Skipper Rhys Hilditch made the correct decision to bat first on the day.

The initial damage was done by opener Michael Parton and Jac Evans, who was playing only his second game for the club.

The duo put together a second wicket partnership of 80 and this ended when Parton was dismissed for 33.

Hughes top scored with a fine 83 and he was involved in a 67-run stand for the third wicket with Sion Hughes, who then played his part in a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket with William Jones.

Sion Hughes cracked 46 and Jones made 48.

With Dafydd Roberts (10), Duncan Roberts (19) and Josh Duckworth (13) also contributing, Ruthin made a powerful 280-9 from their 50 overs.

Bersham were quickly reduced to 28-5 when it was their turn to take to the crease and they never really recovered from this tricky start.

Harry Pooler was in quite brilliant form early in the innings, claiming 5-25 to leave Bersham with Everest to climb.

Phillip Young (17) and Jonath David (17) did give the visitors something to smile about with a 36-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

However, Ruthin were never seriously threatened and they would eventually bowl their visitors out for 79 in the 26th over.

Also among the wickets for the home side were Sandeep Anantharaman (2-11), Jamie Hulse (2-32) and Jac Evans (1-0).
