KINMEL BAY 4

DENBIGH TOWN U-15s 2

DENBIGH Town Rhinos U-15s' luckless end to the season continued as Kinmel Bay claimed the Rhyl and District Junior League Division Two title with a 4-2 win in a winner-takes-all contest.

The situation was simple for Denbigh, who needed all three points to leapfrog Kinmel Bay and Rhyl Hearts to take the title.

They started off well and dominated the opening encounters without really testing the home goalkeeper.

Luck hasn't really shone on Denbigh recently and a huge ricochet presented Bay with the opener, before a big punt from the halfway line bounced freakishly over the head of Jake Jones to double the home side's advantage before the break.

Finn McCoole poked in his 12th of the season to reignite Denbigh's title hopes.

The impressive Lewis Devine assisted as Denbigh came out with all guns blazing in the second half.

Like the cup final a week previously, Kinmel Bay had a debatable decision go their way again when on the ropes.

This time, the softest of penalties allowed them to increase their lead and kill off Denbigh's revival.

A superb individual goal gave Bay the title moments later, but not before Gethin Rogers capped an energetic display by slotting home from Jake D Roberts' raking pass late on.

It was another hard-working effort without reward for Denbigh, however the title wasn't lost here, but in the previous poor run of games that saw a squad depleted by injuries and commitments embark on a run off one point from a possible 12.
