CONNAH'S QUAY 113

ST ASAPH 115-1

DUNCAN Midgley was in quite scintillating form as St Asaph secured a Quay victory on their travels.

Midgley hit a superb unbeaten 86 as the Saints strengthened their lofty North Wales Cricket League Premier Division aims courtesy of a thumping nine-wicket success at Connah's Quay.

St Asaph were well on top in all facets and the 14-point haul they gathered means they remain within sights of the leading lights in the division.

The Saints would spend the early part of the afternoon in the field after they won the toss.

Jason Foulkes and Alex Baker both made sure that Connah's Quay were soon struggling.

Foulkes claimed the first wicket to fall when he trapped opener David Fox leg before, while it was the turn of Baker to celebrate when he gained his own lbw decision, this time against Thomas Hooson.

Quite quickly, Connah's Quay were reduced to 26-4.

Martin Burger has been a thorn in the side of St Asaph in the past and he was still at the crease.

Therefore, it would have come as a relief when Burger was eventually dismissed by Baker for 25.

Despite decent efforts down the order from the likes of Joshua Clarke (21), Callum Miller (18) and Matthew Dix (12 not out), Connah's Quay continued to struggle and they were finally bowled out for 113 in the 40th over of their innings.

Baker finished up with a superb return of 4-25 from his 10 overs, while Foulkes grabbed 4-30.

The remaining wickets went the way of Duncan Midgley (1-17) and Liam Moores (1-20).

Midgley wasn't for shifting when it was St Asaph's turn to take to the crease after tea.

Opening the innings, Midgley hit 10 fours and a trio of sixes in his brilliant undefeated effort of 86.

With Nathanael Scott hitting a patient eight not out, the Saints reached a winning 115-1 in the 24th over.

Joshua Clarke (1-29) picked up the solitary wicket to fall.
