PWLLHELI 205

ST ASAPH 195

SHORT-HANDED St Asaph just fell short during their weekend trip to Pwllheli.

Making the trip with only 10 players, the Saints found themselves being edged out by just 10 runs in an exciting clash.

The pre-match toss went the way of the hosts and the message back to the changing room was for the opening batsmen to don their pads.

Jason Foulkes was in fine form with the ball early on and he trapped both of the Pwllheli openers leg before.

However, Tristan Coetzee sparked a Pwllheli recovery with his knock of 80, which came from just 74 deliveries.

There were also solid efforts in the middle order from the likes of Adam Williams (26) and captain Morgan Murray-Williams (20) to help push the total along.

The efforts of Foulkes (3-46), Danny Ryan (3-53), Duncan Midgley (2-38), William Ryan (1-13) and Liam Moores (1-50) kept the Saints interested and Pwllheli were eventually bowled out for 205 in the penultimate over of their innings.

St Asaph lost an early wicket during their reply, as opener Alex Baker departed with only four runs on the scoreboard.

Recovery was in the offing thanks to the efforts of opener Duncan Midgley and Nathanael Scott.

The pair put together a superb stand of 139 for the second wicket and this came to an end when Scott was dismissed by Morgan Murray-Williams for 47.

Agonisingly, Midgley was out just two runs shy of a century.

He was caught-and-bowled by Murray-Williams for a sparkling 98.

St Asaph were still in a strong position after the dismissal of Midgley, but Murray-Williams turned things around in favour of Pwllheli and the visitors lost their last six wickets for only 26 runs.

Murray-Williams finished with a superb 6-42 return to dismiss St Asaph for 195.
