CEFN 10

CLAWDDNEWYDD 1

JUST a couple of weeks ago, the race for the golden boot looked to be done and dusted.

At that stage, Llanfair hotshot Llyr Morris was well clear at the top of the scoring charts.

However, the race to become the league's top scorer this season is now an interesting one and three players are in the mix for the honour.

One of them is Cefn's Jake Walker, who is completing the season in brilliant form.

Walker grabbed four goals in the 10-1 Thursday night win over battling Clawddnewydd to take his tally for 2019 up to 27, which is now just two behind Llyr Morris.

Cefn made a fast start to the encounter and they were two-up inside the opening 10 minutes.

Walker broke the deadlock in the fifth minute and this was soon followed by Rhys Jones' strike.

Clawdd weren't just there to make up the numbers, though, and they benefited from Tirion Griffiths' 16th goal of the season.

That's as good as it got for the visitors and Cefn went into the interval 6-1 ahead.

Gwion Owen and Jack Davies' header stretched the advantage, before Walker added two more to complete his first half hat-trick.

Cefn continued on the front foot when the second half got underway.

Walker scored his fourth goal soon after the restart, before midfielder Gwion Owen grabbed his second of the evening.

Morgan Owen's successful penalty made it 9-1 and the scoring was completed by Iwan Johnson.

This was Cefn's 10th victory of the season and it means they still have a chance of securing a top-three finish.
