JUST two more runs!

That's all that Denbigh required to make it a winning weekend of North Wales Cricket League action.

The Ystrad Road side lost out by a solitary run in their thrilling home encounter with Gresford.

It was Gresford who won the pre-match toss and he opted to bat first.

This initially turned out to be the correct decision and Denbigh struggled during the early portion of the contest.

The first wicket to fall was that of Matthew Thompson, who was caught by Stuart Griffiths off the bowling of Jack Griffiths for 16.

The efforts of skipper Daniel Williams (54) and Matthew Cree (41) ensured that Gresford enjoyed a decent start to the contest, but Denbigh hit back in good fashion to ensure their opponents were restricted to below 200.

Doing the bulk of the damage with the ball were Sam Lewis (3-33) and Harrison Jones (2-28) as Gresford made 193-8 from their 50 overs.

Also among the wickets were Jack Griffiths (1-11), Archie Sussex (1-29) and Stuart Griffiths (1-14).

Denbigh's reply didn't get off to the best of starts and captain Harrison Jones was dismissed without troubling the scorers.

Recovery was in the offing thanks to the efforts of Sam Lewis (34), Tom Schrimshaw (28), Daniel Nixon (17), Andy Thomas (15) and Andy Clarke (10).

Chris Ellwood (3-55) and Daniel Williams (2-41) kept Gresford interested, but a superb knock of 44 from Stuart Griffiths appeared to have the home side on the cusp of victory.

Enter Jack Bunkell, though, and he returned to the attack to claim 2-29, with Denbigh agonisingly being bowled out for 192.

Alec Lewis added 11 to Denbigh's chase before he was run out.
