NANTGLYN 1, LLANGYNHAFAL 0

A FINAL fling is in the offing for Nantglyn following a dramatic night in Llanfair.

The Tony Evans Memorial Shield semi-final clash between the boys in blue and league champions Llangynhafal was a tense affair.

Following on from the recent goalless draw between the sides in the league, another 0-0 draw appeared in the offing.

However, Nantglyn made sure they booked their spot in the final courtesy of a dramatic 87th minute strike.

Gruff Roberts made the most of a defensive error and although his effort was blocked, Lewys Jones' follow-up was deflected into the top corner of the net.

It was a deserved success for Nantglyn, who were the more threatening of the two sides in the final third.

Gruff Roberts and Geraint Jones both fired second half efforts into the side-netting, while Gwion Bibby's speculative strike from 40 yards hit the post.

The best chance in the first half went in Llangynhafal's favour.

They were awarded a penalty close to the interval when Nantglyn keeper Leon Gierke was adjudged to have fouled Tom Seddon.

However, Gierke brilliantly saved Tom Dyer's spot kick to make sure it remained goalless at the break.

Llangynhafal did have an excellent chance to take the tie into extra time, but a last minute effort was fired over the crossbar.

Nantglyn now go forward to face Llandyrnog in the showpiece final on Friday evening.

Rhewl will host the final and kick-off will be at 7pm.
