LLAY 142-5

RUTHIN 137-9

AS far as well timed chases go, the one compiled by Llay on Saturday was a good example.

Chasing 138 for victory versus Ruthin, the home side didn't go gung-ho and they reached their target with 11 deliveries to spare.

Most things went in Llay's favour during the Division One contest, including the fact that they won the pre-match toss.

This resulted in Ruthin making first use of the batting track and they had a number of promising efforts among the top order.

Opener Dafydd Roberts was Ruthin's main scorer over the course of the innings thanks to his knock of 31.

Stephen Bryan-Jones struck 25 for the visitors, with other decent efforts being supplied by Jac Evans (19) and Josh Duckworth (16).

All of these contributions helped Ruthin to make 137-9 from their 50 overs.

Among the wickets for Llay were Ethan Griffiths (3-31), Nathan Humphreys (2-26), Jack Aplin (2-43) and Tom Crewe (1-12).

After tea, Llay mirrored the Ruthin effort thanks to some good contributions in the top order.

John Lloyd (34), Chris Woodcock (27), Jack Parry (26) and Ethan Griffiths (14) all nudged the hosts towards their target.

Josh Duckworth (1-31), Llyr Williams (1-33) and John Tudor (1-35) kept Ruthin in touch, while Duncan Roberts instigated a pair of run outs.

Eventually, Llay reached a winning 142-5 in the 49th over.
