CORWEN 103-8

LLAY 2NDS 102

A WEEK after they were bowled out for only 27, there was a winning weekend for Corwen to celebrate.

The War Memorial Park put the poor batting effort behind them as they played host to Llay 2nds in North Wales Cricket League Division Two action on Saturday.

Home captain Kevin Sharp took the field first option after he won the pre-match toss.

Llay made the trip to Edeyrnion with just nine players and they were indebted to two players for managing to give them a decent target to defend.

Steve Partington (31) and Mike Phennah (30) were the chief scorers as the visitors were dismissed for 102 in the 38th over.

The bulk of Corwen's five-strong attack bagged wickets, spearheaded by Ben Scott (2-10), Simon Harrison (2-16) and William Pooler (2-30).

There was also a wicket for Nathan Aldridge (1-17), while Pooler instigated a run out.

Turning to the second portion of the afternoon and the majority of Corwen's top order managed to click.

Opener Nathan Aldridge struck 18 for the hosts, while Kevin Sharp (44 not out) and Nathan Murray (24 not out) moved Corwen close to victory.

There was a middle order wobble as Jack Honey grabbed 4-12 from just five overs, but Corwen edged to a winning 103-8.
