TOP flight opponents will provide a stern test for Corwen this weekend.

Following their 2-0 success at Berriew last weekend, Danny Jellicoe's charges will play host to JD Cymru Premier Caernarfon Town in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup on Saturday.

The tie will be played at Bala Town's Maes Tegid ground, with kick-off at 2.30pm.

"We are really looking forward to it and it will be a huge test for us," said Jellicoe.

"They have got some really quality players, like Nathan Craig and Jamie Breese.

"We have got a bit of a smaller squad this season, through choice.

"We have got the full 16 there on Saturday."

As for the season ahead in a tough JD Cymru North, Jellicoe added: "We are under no illusions about how difficult it's going to be this season.

"Looking at it there are no easy games and they will come thick and fast.

"We have got Prestatyn in the second or third game, and then Ruthin at home and Colwyn Bay will be coming to us.

"It's going to be tough, but we are really excited.

"If we can retain the league status, that will be great for the following season.

"But it will be a huge test, week in week out."

Bala Town will open their new campaign on Friday night.

The visitors to Maes Tegid will be Gresford Athletic for a second round tie in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Gresford caused a stir on Sunday as they saw off Colwyn Bay 1-0 in the opening round.

Former Ruthin Town striker Jordan MacCarter headed in the only goal.

There has been a further addition to the ranks at Maes Tegid ahead of the big kick-off.

Bala Town have this week comfirmed that they have secured the signature of highly rated goalkeeper Josh Tibbetts.

Tibbets, aged 21, hails from the West Midlands and began his career at Birmingham City, spending 11 years with the Blues.

In May 2017, he switched to Peterborough United and he went on loan to Solihull Moors and Royston Town, before a move to Southport last season.

The tall and commanding shotstopper has featured in all of Town’s pre-season games, which has earned him a contract from the Lakesiders’ management for the forthcoming season.
