CORWEN RESERVES 2

CEFN DRUIDS RESERVES 2

IT couldn't be a tougher start to the Wrexham Area League season for Corwen Reserves.

The Reserves' Division campaign opened with a home clash versus defending champions Cefn Druids on Friday evening.

And this was followed last night (Tuesday) by a visit to last season's runners-up Ruthin Town.

The home side went for the jugular early on and they took the lead after just 94 seconds.

The ball fell nicely for debutant Huw Sadler, who placed a strike into the net.

Corwen had the better of the first half and they deservedly doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute via another debutant.

Owen Cordiner found the back of the net with a well-taken goal.

The visitors attempted to pull a goal back before the break, but they could only send a free kick over the crossbar.

It was game on once again 10 minutes after the break.

A cross across the home box was collected by Jaden Jones, who slotted the ball home.

It was two-apiece in the 61st minute when substitute Darren Evans was given too much space in the penalty area and he blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

The home side responded as they went in search of a winner.

Owen Cordiner went through one-on-one with Benjamin Edwards and the goalkeeper did well to put the striker off as Cordiner put the ball over the bar.

A Sam Griffiths free kick found Cordiner in the box, who sent his shot just wide of the target.

Corwen's final chance came in the third minute of stoppage time.

Will Hughes' corner landed at the feet of Sam Griffiths at the far post, but he was unable to steal the headlines as his shot was blocked by Benjamin Edwards.
